Fun Ways To Remain Focused And Secure Higher Grades

It happens many a times! You sit at your chair-and-table combo to study and prepare for your exams and, all of a sudden, you are distracted. You start to think about all the stuff you should not think of. Further, you find most of the subjects unexciting. This could be worse.

Then as the semester end begins to approach, you start having nightmares wherein you are standing, with head down looking at your feet, next to your parents. You are holding a report card that looks not so much pretty. This is horrible!

Okay, my idea of saying all this is not to make you feel panicked or disheartened (although, you would already have got bristled hair all over your body!). Anything that seems to be worse or horrible can be converted into better and charming, for sure. All you may have to do is practice a few progressive things that will assist you at remaining focused - focused at what needs to be done.

This becomes more of your interest when some fun is added to everything you do. So, start with the following (the best yet least apparent) fun ways to increase your concentration so that you turn up your Grade Cs and Bs into Bs and As.

Stay distraction-free

In today’s times the most terrible medium of distraction is internet. According to a few surveys the time that teens spend online is indeed too much!

  • Yahoo’s report states that American students spend almost 16.7 hrs/ week or 67hrs/ month online making it at least 2.3 hrs/ day.
  • A Telegraph UK states that teenagers in the UK spend whopping 31hrs/ week or 124 hrs/ month online making it 4.5 hrs/ day.

*The data is from surveys made in the year 2009 and 2010, which means that the number of hours might have increased by the current year.

Thus, the most important thing is to avoid digital distractions wherein the social networking websites are fun on their own. This means that you may have to make the evasion method more fun for which you could (this is my personal opinion, though) appoint someone to scold you every time you log into your favorite social networking site to chat with your friends. A personal blog author Maneesh Sethi did so - he appointed a woman to slap him in the face each time he wasted precious time on wasteful sites.

This may sound a little bizarre but the fact is that this works! You can ask your mom to do so for you. Even if she will not slap you, she can at least shout at you… better for you, by the way.

Make friends with whiteboards

Here you may have any type of white (dry wipe) planks beside your study table. Be it planning, plain or gridded, wall mounted or free standing or folding or even folding or duo you can have them to help you at doing so many fun things whilst keeping organized.

For instance, hang a white, shiny, slick plank beside your table. Put a small black dot in the centre of the plank. Focus on the point without blinking for as long as you could. Not only this may boost the power of concentration; it may help at improving eye-sight too!

Bring in a few laptop whiteboards and call for a group study session. Ask a friend of yours to monitor the session and provide all others with a problem to solve within a limited time. Once the time is over, exchange your boards. Each will check others’ replies and give points. Do not forget to bring in some snacks for your friends so that they do not have grumbling stomachs.

You could as well hang a large whiteboard, across your bed, in room that will allow you to revise the important notes before going to sleep.

Play ask-a-question family games

This may involve your family and friends too. During dinner time everybody will have a turn to ask a question (certainly related to the topic of discussion). Those who know will raise their hands and give the answer - for every correct reply you can receive a candy or a chocolate. Now, no doubt, you may love to collect as many candies as you can. What else? You may get a chance to let your parents test you and guide wherever required.

Apart from all this, you can get to create your iTunes playlist of your favorite songs to listen to in between. The right kind of music indeed relaxes your mind and releases stress enabling you to focus more on valuable matters. In case you are more of a gadget freak and you love to spend more time on your cell phone or iPad, make a better use of it. Store in  notes in note maker; use the dictionary more; record your lectures on it and listen to them as many times as you want to; and keep your eBooks handy on it and read them while you travel back to your home from school or college.
